Food for Life is currently running in 14 African countries. Here we take a look at what’s happening in Namibia with the support of Messengers of Peace:

Scouts in Namibia are enabling their families and communities to achieve household food security and tackle poverty by cultivating food gardens to provide a sustainable food source to feed their families and the wider community.

237 Scouts plus over 750 non-Scouts in four of the 14 regions of Namibia have already been trained in community agriculture and entrepreneurship and provided with the necessary tools and skills to plant and tend home and community gardens to produce enough food to feed their own families.

The project also promotes teamwork and community spirit, with Scouts and others coming together to work to care for community gardens, to feed those most in need. Surplus food serves as a source of income generation for young people, who are being empowered to become self-employed and self-sufficient.

Scouts of Namibia are also working hard to promote a positive view of agricultural knowledge, especially related to how young people can contribute to environmental protection through organic farming, to ensure that the environment remains conducive for farming purposes in the long-term.

Get behind the incredible work Scouts are undertaking through Food for Life by supporting and donating through The Scarf Circle today!

Everyone should have access to food though this is not a reality in our world. It’s great that Scouts are engaging in the accomplishment of the global goals.

I believe that sustainability is the main strength of this project… building local capacities and promoting self-sufficiency is going to produce a long-lasting positive effect.
